Monique Vernon is a grass-roots native of Placencia who graduated from the University of Belize in 2016
After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management, Monique returned to her home village, where she volunteered and worked for several NGOs like Fragments of Hope, and the Belize Seaweed Farmers Association, among others before founding her organization called Mr. Goby and Friends Recycling. She is now the leading person for waste management in Placencia, was titled Oceana’s 2021 National Wavemaker of the Year, and became one of the twenty nationalists to have received the Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work 2022.
